Morning’s Songs

February 10th, 2008  ·  2 Comments

Just now peering through the trees,

the first light of morning gold

breaks the shadow times of night.

Before the light grows stronger

awakening the morning creatures,

I wonder at the ‘oh so silent still’.

In these moments of calm morning air,

and daylights not yet broken

I pause to breathe the tranquil space.

For soon the chitterings of waking birds,

will chorus in the morning’s songs

as night’s shade fades away.

The promise of another day’s dawning

as morning stretches

to embrace the once cold and darkened night.

Morning’s songs now fully sung

have ushered in the dawn,

Until They Rest

January 25th, 2008  ·  5 Comments

Like the last leaf

that falls from the tree,
all things come to completion.

When I began this journey
I did not know the steps my sandals take,
Sadly at times I know where they will not.

I have left opened doors behind me,
walking away from gaping mouths
and statues with clay feet.

If I am to make my way into this life
I must risk the blessings
that have been lavished upon me.

It is from the goodness that I draw
my will to be again reborn
again and again before passing to the final death.

If I

Moving Mountains

November 29th, 2007  ·  2 Comments

Seeing the lines left in freshly raked sand,
pleased that yet no footprints appear.
I feel the cold window glass upon my fingertips,
while voices try to distract my thoughts.

Chased from one space to another
by my need for solitude.
Often others find a way to intrude
upon my burgeoning compassion.

Until I secret myself away
and find a sheltered corner.
Where I find myself a space,
to center and collect the person I’ve lost.

My eyes fall to a gray cement floor.
I begin the gathering of my thoughts.
Watching my breath I am calmed,
in these first

In the Rising and Falling

October 9th, 2007  ·  2 Comments

I begin to search

the empty rooms of my memories.

Nothing but dust and decaying veils,

crumbling do I find.

A thought rises and dies,

a silent agony.

Rooms dimly lit, where no happiness rests.

I reach for words,

that simply fall away.

I stretch for meanings,

that elude my tender touch.

Without the light,

I am fading.

Without the glitter of so sweet sounds,

my ears hear nothing but a crushing silence.

I must find a way,

through these rooms of soundless voids.

Until finally I may rest my straining eyes

from peering into the dark.

That I may

A Poet Reborn

October 2nd, 2007  ·  No Comments

We are each of us

a repository of the universe.

In each of us sleeps creation.

If on this page you see the clouds

that rains upon the forest

and feel the paper in the tree,

then you are a poet.

For the cloud rains down upon the earth,

to nourish the tree so It can grow

and be harvested for many things.

Nothings exits in emptiness.

As alone and solitary as you may feel

you are a part of every living thing.

So when in your hands

you hold a warm and golden mango,

see the tree, the grower,

A Message from Bhante Kassapa

Bhante Kassapa Bhikkhu

I am Bhante Kassapa, and welcome to 'From West to East'. I am a Theravada Buddhist monk, and currently residing in Buu Mon Buddhist Temple in Port Arthur, Texas. I am hoping that you enjoy your visit to the site. I teach Vipassana Meditation here at the temple along with a varied mix of duties. It is my wish that you will enjoy your stay, possibly experience a few things, and recognize the happiness that can be found inside yourself. You may e-mail me here or at bhante_kassapa@yahoo.com. Each of us is on a journey. We may lose our way a few times along the path but that's ok. You're here now, so breathe and peruse the images, read the postings and feel free to ask any questions that come to mind. I hope that whatever we try to accomplish here on'From West to East' that our first goal is to acknowledge real compassion is for all people without exception. Secondly, we wish to to teach the message of awareness, mindfulness and charity of self to all people. Finally, we would hope that you learn to love yourself and have peace. Wherever you go, always leave that place better, for you having been there.

I wish you Peace.
